Kashmiri Crewel

Crewel embroidery is one of the great recurring traditions in decorative textiles - genuine hand embroidered, not printed or machine done. Each motif is worked by hand in wool yarn onto cotton or linen, a process no mass production method can replicate and one that's reserved for only the most considered designs as each yard takes 40-80 hours of labor.

This piece draws on the Indienne tradition - botanical and garden subjects rendered with the loose, layered character of Indian chintz - one of the defining themes of mid-century decorative textiles. Vintage crewel work in usable condition, this many years on, is genuinely collectible.

This bag is lined in Italian Coraggio Silk Damask and has an internal double pocket as well as a magnetic closure.

Handmade using repurposed fabric, this bag is fully lined for daily use.

This piece is made from hand-embroidered crewelwork. Each stitch was placed by hand, and the texture, depth, and subtle variations across the surface are intrinsic to the technique. Minor irregularities in stitch density or thread behavior are expected and are what distinguish hand embroidery from machine production.
