Gloucester (Shamash + Sons)
Shamash & Sons International Textile was founded by members of the Shamash family, a prominent Baghdadi Jewish merchant clan with deep roots in Iraq's textile trade. The Shamash family were among the thousands of Iraqi Jews who fled Baghdad across the mid-20th century — particularly following the Farhud pogrom of 1941 and the political upheavals of the 1950s and 1960s — and rebuilt their commercial lives in the West. Settling in New York, the family established Shamash & Sons in the heart of Manhattan's Garment District at 42 West 39th Street, continuing the textile tradition their family had practiced in Baghdad for generations. The company became known for well-crafted printed decorator fabrics — florals, conversationals, and coordinating prints — distributed through fabric retailers and the American home furnishings trade.
Gloucester is made from authentic vintage and/or discontinued Shamash + Sons fabric.
Handmade using repurposed fabric, this bag is fully lined for daily use.
These pieces are made from carefully selected vintage textiles. Each fabric is inspected closely for quality and integrity, but due to age and original printing methods, very subtle imperfections may occasionally be present. These details are part of the fabric's history and character.
Because each piece is cut individually from the original fabric, the item you receive may vary ever so slightly from the photo shown. These subtle differences in pattern placement are what make every piece truly one of a kind.
Details:
- Dimensions: 13" wide × 14.5" long × 6" deep
- Strap length: 25"
